I had the Healing Journey

Alise Eastgate

“Nature speaks to the here and now, and it speaks to responsive solutions with the whole system in mind. One responsive solution we witness in nature is migration.

This piece features animals who each embark on epic migration journeys through the Northern California Coast. They represent life from land, sea and sky, illustrating interdependence and unique abilities. Their journeys are as diverse as their ways of being. The monarch butterfly and the globe skimmer dragonfly collaborate relay-style with past and future generations to complete their journeys; they embody the wisdom required to plant seeds they themselves will not be around to witness bloom.

Migration is risky and it requires collective hope, endurance, trust and adaptability. Migration also involves connection, movement, liberation; and it involves community.

The pattern that covers the background is inspired by T cells that circulate through each of our bodies. The arches around which the animals are placed reflect the present moment and the people in it, mirroring movement and stillness and honoring our need for both.”
