Samson Lee Boutique

Live painting at Samson Lee’s fashion show in Sacramento, CA in November 2021

I have been following fellow Fiji artist, Samson Lee for years and have been inspired by his beautiful, wearable art. In 2021 and 2022, I had the pleasure of live painting at two Samson Lee fashion shows in Sacramento, California. The energy of the shows was amazing and glamorous, and each experience left me feeling like I was in the islands. This was particularly special for me, as the pandemic brought many challenges including an extended time away from Fiji and my creative community.

When I returned to Fiji in December 2022, Samson hired me to paint the wall of his boutique on Butt Street in Suva. The boutique has large windows that display his latest pieces. Samson’s designs are bold and distinct while maintaining a classic, polished look and I wanted to bring that energy to the mural wall.

The wall was a vibrant, solid pink that stands out amongst the buildings in the area. I added a bright blue graphical design of Fiji jungle, partially contained in a circle. It is awesome to see Samson’s new designs photographed outside of the boutique. I feel the inspiration of those Sacramento fashion shows all over again!
